What you are using
IQTest publishes a free sixteen-item reasoning test and a small set of pages explaining how to read its output. The test is an educational screener. It is not a clinical assessment, not a diagnostic instrument, and not a supervised examination, and using it implies you accept that distinction.
Scoring runs on your own device. We do not administer, observe or verify your attempt, and we hold no record of it.
What a score from this site cannot be used for
This list is specific on purpose. Each entry is a real use people attempt, and none of them is supported by a result from here.
| Not valid for | What is required instead |
|---|---|
| Membership of Mensa or any high-IQ society | A supervised test from that society's approved list |
| Any diagnosis — ADHD, dyslexia, intellectual disability, giftedness | A licensed psychologist administering a full battery |
| Assessing a child | An age-normed instrument such as the WISC-V; adult norms do not transfer to children |
| A gifted-programme application | A school psychologist or an approved external assessor |
| Employment screening or a job application | Whatever instrument the employer names; self-administered results are not accepted |
| Legal, educational or medical proceedings of any kind | A qualified professional's assessment and written report |
Presenting a result from this site as evidence in any of those contexts misrepresents it, and no wording on this site supports it.
Age
The test is intended for people aged 16 and over. It is not normed for children, and a result produced by a younger test-taker measures nothing meaningful — childhood cognitive assessment requires age-banded norms this instrument does not have.
The limits of the result itself
We state these in the product rather than burying them here, and they are repeated in this document because they are part of what you are agreeing to.
- The reported 95% confidence interval is ±13 points. A single figure without that band overstates what sixteen items can establish.
- A raw score of five or under is inside what blind guessing produces on a six-option test, and is not evidence of an ability level.
- Domain scores rest on four items each and are indicative only.
- The scale is anchored to published population parameters rather than to a standardisation sample we collected. The methodology page lists everything this instrument has not established.
What we commit to
These are editorial commitments, not legal warranties, and they are the standard we expect to be held to.
- Checkable claims cite a primary source, never a secondary site repeating it.
- Figures carry the date they were last verified.
- A scientific review date moves only when a review actually happens. Where content has changed since a review, the affected pages are marked superseded rather than re-dated.
- Substantive corrections are made and noted rather than quietly overwritten.
- User complaints quoted from review platforms are labelled as user reports, not presented as established fact.
Acceptable use
You may take the test, read the pages, and share a result link. You may quote or cite this site with attribution.
You may not resell the test or present it as your own, scrape it to reconstruct the item bank, automate attempts to interfere with the service, or reproduce substantial parts of the written content without permission. The items, explanatory text, wordmark and page design are ours; the underlying ICAR item structure is public-domain work by its authors, credited on the methodology page.
Sharing a result
A shared result link encodes your score, your raw total and your four domain counts into the address itself. Anyone holding that link sees those figures. Nothing else travels with it — no name, no email, no per-item answers — and there is no database behind it. Treat a shared link the way you would treat any address you post publicly.
Third parties
Some outbound links are commercial partnerships and are marked where they appear. We do not control the content, pricing or practices of any linked site, and a link is not an endorsement of a purchase.
IQTest is not affiliated with Mensa, Pearson, the University of Essex, or any test publisher or institution named anywhere on this site. Naming a test or an institution describes a fact about the field; it does not imply endorsement in either direction.
Liability
The site and the test are provided as they are, without warranty of accuracy, availability or fitness for a particular purpose. Decisions you take on the basis of a score from here are yours. Given a ±13 band on an unsupervised screener, we would say plainly that it is not a sound basis for any consequential decision, and the pages say so throughout.
If you are concerned about a genuine change in your memory, concentration or thinking, that is a matter for a clinician and not for a web page.
Changes to these terms
Material changes are dated at the top of this page. There is no account to notify and no mailing list attached to this document, so the date is the record.
